When things way down on you, you feel low, there are different self-caring things you can try to do. A trick is to remember that not to always try doing the same thing but to reach to our creativity and imagination and pull new things out of there. Having a list as an inspiration may help. Here are some ideas. You can make such a list for your self.
- Say good, soothing and comforting things to your self. Especially if I feel beaten up by the inner critic, this feels soothing - I try to comfort my self like I would comfort a child. And it is the inner child that is hurting sometimes. So typically before falling asleep I say sweet, comforting things to the inner boy and even hug him (mentally, but also by placing gently my hand over my heart).
- Sleep or rest if tired. Sometimes, this simple advice is easily forgotten. We need to have enough sleep in order to function. For some of us, this is more easily said than done. Trying to go to bed earlier, to avoid doing arousing things (work, computer...) before going to bed.
- Go to a place with a lot of green/near water and take a walk or just sit and relax
- Call, email or chat up a friend
- Write about how you feel
- Imagine being on your favourite vacation spot
- Ask your significant other to comfort you or give you a massage
- Swim, water is great
- Go to movies
- Go shopping
- Look through old photos from vacations/nice events
- Walk barefoot on grass/sand
- Take a long bath or shower
- Go to sauna
- Read a consuming book
- Watch your favourite show on TV
- Read comic books
- Lay in the sun with your eyes closed
- Exercise
- Meditate
- Do yoga. If you can, do it outside, in the park or on the beach
- Play loud music. Sing along, or dance.
- Rearrange your room, desk or your wardrobe
- Book a massage
- Sit in a cafe with a book, or watch people passing by
