I often read in my bed, before falling asleep. It's a habit of more than 20 years. Normally, my wife sleeps next to me, so we sometimes read together. So as I started reading about intuitive eating, throwing glances at my wife, it hit me: she's a natural intuitive eater. It was when I read about those domestic cats that just lift their tails in the middle of eating and leave. Yep - that's my wife. She just stops and says: I'm done. No matter what is on the plate. Quantity of the food she leaves also doesn't play a role.
The more I read about the intuitive eater, the more I recognized my wife's habits. She eats when she feels hungry. Time does not play a role. She eats what she likes. Sweets, chocolate, ice cream... whatever she feels like. Always in moderation - sometimes more, sometimes less, however she feels like. She never over-eats. She always maintains her ideal weight. When she doesn't feel okay, she talks about it. Or takes care of her self (e.g. takes a bath, relaxes...). She doesn't eat (unless hungry). Before I got to know intuitive eating I just thought - how lucky she is. Now I know she is simply a person who never dieted, in touch with her feelings and body's signals. How great is that?
Same with drinking by the way. She likes to have a glass of wine sometimes. That's it basically. She really enjoys it, but she just stops after that glass. Very rarely, on a party or so, she might have two. But she definitely clearly hears her stop signals. It's enough. Drinking is enjoyable, but small part of her life. Sometimes, she feels like having a glass of wine, but for one or another reason it turns out difficult, she just says - forget about it. There is always the next time. How great is that?
It all makes so much sense. I am so thankful to have her by my side. There is so much I am learning from her.
